Putting in the Miles

Had an awesome weekend off from racing and got in some good miles and with my new team RMCEF. A couple of the guys from the team came down to Junction for a training camp this past weekend. The group of guys are awesome and very strong, I cant wait to race with them this year. Were looking at doing some good races this year, possibly Sea Otter, Cascade, Nationals and maybe Utah. So I need to get my upgrade this season.

On Saturday we got a good day on the bike. We got around 130 miles, going to Utah and back and then went up and over the Monument. So that was a long day, but fun. Then Sunday we headed down to Gateway, with 40mphplus winds. It was like a wind tunnel in that canyon. We were getting blown all over the place. We were doing about 7mph on the way out. Then got up to 55mph on the way home which was real nice. So all together it was a good weekend, and I cant wait to race with all of them

Pulled off the Win!!!!!!

Well this past weekend was our home Road Race. I was looking forward to staying here and having the races in Junction, but I knew it was going to be real hard. So on Friday afternoon the CSU team got into town and over to our house. We were providing some host housing for them over the weekend. Even though the coach did not really seem to appreciate it.

On Saturday morning we had the hill climb up the West side of the National Monument. It was an ITT which was a little over 4miles. I had done a couple efforts up this side to test my time before this weekend but never got less than 17min. I went off 30sec before Kevin and Brent 30sec behind him. I knew that would give me the little extra push. Though in the end Kevin beat me by 7second. I ended up getting a time 15:58.00 which was a lot faster than my fastest time ever up it, so that was a plus.

Then later that night was the crit out on the go-cart track off I-70. We got there early and watched the pro go. It was single file the whole race and rally fast, with a lot of tight corners. Our race did not go off until 7:15p.m. so we were under the lights for a twilight crit which was awesome. The race started and was single file after the first lap. I started in the second row and worked the first two laps to get up into the top 5. I made sure to not go any deeper then 5th wheel the whole race. About 5laps in the pack was split into two groups. Kevin and I were in the first group and did a lot of attacks to keep the gap growing. Kevin and I were attacking and counter-attacking all night, it was awesome. The group closed on one of Kevins break when I counter attacked and no one followed. There were about 7laps left and know was I was going to survive that whole time by myself. Lucky for me a FLC rider bridged up and we worked together the rest of the race out front. The laps were fast so we were each pulling 1 lap before the other would pull threw. Lucky for me it worked out that he was pulling the last lap. Though he did try to lose me with 1 to go by throwing down a hard attack. I managed to hold on for dear life. Coming into the last corner he gapped me though I was able to close it and come around him for the win at the very end.

It was awesome; we had a tone of friends and family out there as well as a lot of the community supporters of the team, which made it even better. Kind of funny because I won our home crit. last year and this year. Both times I wasn’t even thinking about the win but managed to pull them off.

The RR was Sunday. The winds were in the 30-40mph which sucked. We were single file all day on the yellow line. I got popped on the 3rd lap of 4 on the last climb. From there I just took it easy into the finish, finishing 15th.

Now we have this weekend off from racing, due to this weekend being cancelled, which turns out to be good because I think I may be coming down with a cold or something.

CU and UNC

Well the race weekend has come and gone. Saturday was the CU crit, which is just an oval with no real turns in it. This course was pretty much a drag race. With no threatening breaks because of how fast and flat it was, I was able to sit near the front for most of the day, which was nice. The team also started working well together. With one lap to go there was another nasty crash that Kevin and I barley missed and Adam was not so lucky. And Brent had some back luck with a flat and got back in just in time for the crash. So I was near the front for the sprint, I ended up 5th which was cool, with 3 CU riders in front of me as well as one CSU rider. The next day was the UNC crit, which is a longer lap, a little over a mile with a lot of round abouts threw out it. This day we were all doing awesome. With both Kevin and Brent being in different breaks threw out the day and every one getting some prime points, besides me...ooops. The race was 75min vs our normal 60min. Mesa was well represented, being in all the moves and controlling the front which was awesome. With one lap to go both Brent and Adam got to the front to set it up for us. Though on the bottom roundabout I got pushed back a lot and had a hard time moving up for the finish. Adam and Brent gave it there all which was AWESOME, and I ended up 8th and Kevin 9th. Which we could of done better to pay them back for all there hard work.Ill just blame my poor performance at UNC from lack of sleep, lol. I think I might have got 4hrs of sleep over the weekend. Our room was the loud one. Lots of snoring going on and talking during sleep. I just stared at the clock from the time I laid down till 4a.m. and got up at 5:30a.m. Friday night. Which sucked. The same happen Saturday night but not as bad.

Now its our home race this weekend. Should be a aweosme weekend. We also got a new house which is cool, so we have two houses until the end of this month. So were gonna be doing some host housing this weekend. And having our new team RMCEF up in Junction next weekend for a training camp.

Boise

Well Spring Break is this week so we had some time to head to Boise, Idaho with Kevin, Mat, and Tom to visit Stu. We headed down there last Friday around 3 after class and got to Boise a little after midnight. The drive was not bad, and took a detour to the POC, not really but that's what we told Chris which would of been an extra 4hrs.The riding out there was awesome, on Saturday we went for a good hilly ride. And then Sunday went for another cool ride outside of Boise and did a cool little Roubaix. On the way back we got a good tempo going and the sky's opened up and brought the snow with. It was not bad until we got to about 30min from home. My sunglasses froze over completely and the snow was coming down like crazy. We were covered in snow, and the last 10min I wanted to fall over and die. I was bonking hard core and wanted to be back. Those last 30min was the worst time I have every had on a bike. Guess I should of ate more, oooops. The rest of the time we just hung out. Tom and Mat wen snowbaording on Saturday and they said it was awesome, which is cool because the resort was only 16miles out of town. We also went to the Minor Legaue hockey game one night which was really cool. Stu got hooked up and we got free tickets and Boise kicked the Canadians asses and there was some cool fights.

Besides that there were some good times. Took a tour of Boise, went the wrong way on a one way, got locked out and was able to pick the lock, some very smelly people, and showing off our staches as well as seeing the weenermobile. Boise was a good time.We got back yesterday and have a some racing this weekend and CU and UNC.

crits,crits and more crits

Well collegiate season has started off and its a lot of crits from here on out. The first RR is not until our home race on March 21st. But this weekend was the CSU oval crit and the CC crit. Saturday was a fun fast race. Went off the front once by myself for a lap and felt my lucky charms coming up, guess there not so lucky. But with 2 laps to go there was a big pile up, and I barley missed it, Kevin was not so lucky. Coming into the last bend I was sitting in about 10th too far back but ended up 7th not too bad. After the collegiate race I wated about 4hrs and jumped in the Pros race. I hung in there, felt really good for doing a race earlier, though with 5 laps to go I started hurting. Not sure how I finished, somewhere in the pack.

Then it was off to the Springs for another crit. Stop and got some yummy 7-11 slurpees. Though we did stay at a sweet hotel Saturday night.......yeah we had to stay on guard at night, along with the local police with there shot guns to make sure there we no more murders in that hotel we were staying at.
Though the race course was a block from where we were staying wich was awesome. The course was fun and fast with no breaks able to stay away. I ended up 4th wich was cool, with a lot of the teams help threw out the race.

Now its almost spring break which is next week. So were heading up to Boise on Firday to visit STU since he never comes to see us. Then its back to GJ on St. Pattys day then off to the CU and UNC crits. Wow more crits.
